This web page came from a loaded My Documents folder on my hard drive. I was trying to figure out what to do with a list of sites that didn't logically seem to fit on any page in this site. While most of the academic page links are useful for anyone working anywhere in the world, some pages are relevant really only for people living or working in Indonesia. But, what about the folks living, or planning on living, in other countries? Well, that is what this page is for. This page will be focused on resources available for residents of countries other than Indonesia. In fact, most international teachers move around quite a bit - many as often as every two or three years. I hope that these pages will be useful in the planning that goes on for each move. I am also adding resources for folks who want to get into the business of teaching English.
2Bangkok.com , is "...daily Thai news you won't find anywhere else. Since 1999, 2Bangkok has featured background and perspective on local news with summaries of the Thai-language press. These stories are often quite different than ones that appear in English." If you are interested in Thailand, this is a site of some interest. I've just added it to my bookmarks.
American Women's Association, Jakarta , is a site for American women in Indonesia, particularly in Jakarta. This site has a lot of resources for the expat woman new to Jakarta.
Asia Expats Forum , is another forum for expats around Asia. It seems to be populated mostly by English teachers.
Asia Web
Direct Forums, has forums about Thailand in French, German
and English. There are also forums about Malaysia. The forums
have a fairly high level of traffic.
AsianInfo.org,
is a site which offers information about countries around Asia.
They note on their website that: "Our goal for this website is
to focus on giving impartial and useful information on each country/region.
To achieve this objective, viewers of our website are part of
our information resource. That is why we have a Message Board,
which are forums designed to allow our viewers to state their
opinions and send information." Check it out and see what it has
to offer.
British Expat Magazine, is
a website expecially for the British expat population. It has
a forum, web email, shopping for the expat, insurance deals, classified
ads, a newsletter and more. It even has some of my articles about
Indonesia on it even though I'm not a Brit.
Bumrungrad International
Hospital, is the website for the highly praised hospital in
Bangkok. Bumrungrad offers a variety of services for the expat
and is widely used by expats living in Asia. The website offers
information on packages and pricing, as well as the facilities
for making online appointments including finding the doctor who
will best serve your needs. I was at this hospital for a comprehensive checkup a month ago, and it was a fascinating experience: very professional if a bit assembly line in approach. I'm going to try a local hospital in Singaraja next year and see what the comparison is like.
Currency Conversion, is the link to the popular currency converter.
EscapeArtist.com, is a magazine
for those planning on moving overseas. It has links for jobs, property, yachts, etc.

is a web site for families who have become expats. It features
articles about expat life usually viewed from a humorous perspective
as the title of one article, "American Observations on New Zealand
~beer, boobs & samurai swords" suggests. There are also quite
a few articles with hints for new expats on how to adjust to life
overseas. Reader submissions are welcomed.

Malaysia and
Asia Expatriates Forum, is a forum which specializes in expats
living in Malaysia. There are also forums for expats living in
other countries in Asia, but they don't seem to get a lot of traffic unlike the Malaysia forum.
Malaysia My
Second Home, is a page by the Malaysian tourist agency which
details the information about the requirements for getting long

Retire-Asia.com, is a new site
by a British expat who moved to Lao after trying several other
countries in Asia. He is currently developing his site which will
be directed at expats who are thinking about moving to Asia for
their retirement. If you are in this boat, you'll want to check
out this site.
Singapore
Bulletin Board and Travel Forum, doesn't seem to get a lot
of postings - way different from the Bali forum, but it does have
some information about Singapore for the tourist, and you may
get a reply if you post a question. Try it.
Sungei Wang Plaza, is
one of the main shopping centers in Kuala Lumpur. It advertises itself on its website as "For All Kinds of Everything." How much better than that can you get?
Tales from a Small Planet, is
a website made for the profession expatriate. It has quite a few
resources including listings of international schools, reports
from postings with information about living conditions, costs
,etc. There are also several message boards to use. Some additional
features are: information for travelers, information for gay and
lesbians living overseas, U.S. tax information, and more still.
An interesting resource for the expat community.
Tales of Asia, is a website that
shows people and places of Asia from a different perspective than
the usual travel pages. This website is done by an American living
in Cambodia and Thailand. He has sections on many of the countries
in Southeast Asia as well as short pieces on Pakistan and Afghanistan.
This site has a travel forum. Most of the information on this
site is about Cambodia, but the other areas are being fleshed
out. Tales of Asia has some interesting links and some beautiful
photos of Asia. The author welcomes contributions from readers.
Very nice design on this site.
Worldisround.com,
is one of those websites for people that want to post photos online
but don't have a place to do it. This site specializes in travel
photos which is why I've listed it here. You can place your travel
photos and an article about the places that you've visited. You
can get a free account with 50 MB of storage space. You might
want to check it out if you are longing to find a place to upload
photos of your life overseas for your friends and family back
home.
Singapore
Expat Choice: Singapore's Expat
Relocation and Housing Portal, is a very nicely designed site
which is set up to help the expatriate sell, buy or lease an apartment,
condo or house in Singapore. The site also has information about
moving and all of the hassles associated with that. There is also
a forum and guides to dining, shopping, hotels, and international
schools. Nice if you are planning to move to Singapore.
VirtualTourist.com
- Singapore Travel Forum, is a little travel forum about Singapore
which isn't spectacular in its size, but it gets the job done
if you have a specific question about getting around and doing
things in Singapore.
Thailand
Ajarn.com - living and teaching in Bangkok,
is a highly popular website about teaching English in Thailand.
Ajarn keeps an updated list of available teaching jobs, information

about TEFL and TESOL certificates. This is a place to go if you
want to get into the teaching profession in Thailand.
AjarnForum.net,
is a popular associated with the Ajarn web site above. Check this
out if you are planning on living and working in Thailand.
An
Introduction to Living and Teaching in Bangkok, is part of
the Escape Artist.com website. This page offers basic info about
the teaching English profession and some hints about living in
the city. There's really nothing here that you can't find at Ajarn
other than the author's belief that getting paid $750 a month
for teaching English is being well-paid.
Bangkok
Scams , is a new site that I found that's dedicated
to reporting on the various scams found in Bangkok and Thailand
such as the gem scam, the tuk tuk scam and the tailor scam. The

things you can learn here.
