Welcome to the Blogs page

Everything on the internet seems to be about blogs or blogs themselves. I have several which you will find over on the right side of the page. Blogs are one of great things that has happened to the internet and the world over the past few years. Everyone has a blog. They're easier to do than websites and a way for people to communicate with each other. You can use blogs with students, and because they are so much like text messaging in a way, students will pick them up quickly, especially if you give them a chance to play with them. More later on blogs. For the moment, here are some of my favorite blogs that can be used by teachers.

anthropology 2¢ Worth is David Warlicks blog on technology and education. Warlick lectures and writes about education, technology and 21st Century literacy.

holding image Adrian Vickers' Indonesia Blog , is the blog of the well known Australian Asian Studies expert Vickers has written several books about Bali. If you're interested in Bali or Indonesia you might want to check out his blog.

holding image Adventures in Educational Blogging , is a blog written by a tech teacher who teaches over in Singapore. This blog has a lot of interesting writing about using technology in schools.

Anthropology Blogs , is a page with a wide selection of blogs all about anthropology. Cool.

holder The Apple Blog is a blog all about Apple. This is a must read for Mac people.

Asia Travel Weblog , is another blog specific to Asia. This is a good site for travel news about Asia.

Blog Indonesia , has a list of blogs about Indonesia. This is a good place to check what is new in the Indonesian blogging world.

dfhdfg Blog Scholar is a blog for academics. Check it out.

Cafe Salemba, is a blog written by three Indonesians about economics and music. I've just started reading this blog, but one point in its favor is that they know the difference between polygamy, polygyny, and polyandry.

holder Chalkdust is a blog about teaching and technology. Good stuff here.

cvxzcv Digital Chalkie is a blog for educators who use technology in Australia. I've just come across it, but it looks cool and useful. My guess is that chalkie is Aussie slang for teacher.

holder EduGeek Journal is a blog devoted to educational technology. I don't know anything about this site, but I'll be watching it to see what comes up.

zxcZX E-Learning Blog: A Day in the Life of a Global, Connected Educator is a blog from the Head of IT at Qatar Academy.

holder iLearn Technology is a blog written by a k-5 technology teacher with the purpose of giving teachers practical tips to integrating technology in their classrooms. I just found this site, and I picked up a few tips. Great job.

Indonesia Anonymus is a blog written by Indonesians who comment on issues affecting Indonesia and Indonesians. Another excellent site for those living in Indonesia or interested in Indonesia.

Indonesia Now with Duncan Graham is a blog written by an Australian journalist. I'm not sure what he does now, but his writing is interesting.

holder The Lost Boy is an interesting blog by a young expat writer living in Thailand.

anthropology Metroblogging Chicago isa blog about Chicago,Illinois, USA. For a born-in-Chicago Chicagoan, this is a breath of fresh air. I miss the old city, and it seems to have really changed over the past 29 years. For all of you expatriate Chicagoans, this is a site to bookmark.

anthropology Metroblogging Lahore is a blog about Lahore, Pakistan. This is one of those sites that I just stumbled across. I lived in Lahore for four years and loved the city so I look forward to the little posts about life in Lahore. If you're planning on visiting Pakistan, or are just a former resident like me, this is a blog that you'll want to check on regularly.

holder NextGenTeachers is a blog for "educators connecting to explore the next generation of teaching and learning". More on this blog in coming weeks.

dfaas Open Left is a political blog about the US. As you might deduce from the name, the politics are to the left of center.

Sarapan Ekonomi is an interesting Indonesian blog about the Indonesian economy.

holding image  Southeast Asian Archaeology Newsblog , is a blog about archaelology in Southeast Asia written by a Singaporean writer-journalist-archaelogy student. Interesting for those studying this area. I'll keep track of this site.

anthropology Stuff Asian People Like is another blog like the one below. Not necessarily politically correct, but humorous. It is just completely bizarre and very funny. I'm still trying to figure out its dynamics.

anthropology Stuff White People Like is a blog that a blogging colleague sent to me. It is just completely bizarre and very funny. I'm still trying to figure out its dynamics.

holder TheThinkingStick is Jeff Utecht's blog. Jeff has just moved to the International School of Bangkok. I attended a workshop that Jeff gave at an EARCOS conference last year, and it was very good. He has some very interesting things to say about education. If you are an international teacher and are interested in using technology, this is a blog to visit regularly.

anthropology Thoughts Outside the Indonesian Box is a group writing project that the blogger over at Jakartass started last month. This is a group of expat writers with suggestions for how Indonesia could move forward. I have a piece in there. Interesting stuff that you should check out.

zxcvz Tourism Indonesia is a blog that I just came across about tourism in Indonesia. It seems to have promise as I learned on my first visit that next year is going to be Visit Indonesia Year.

The Practicalities of Moving to Bali: A Primer for Life in the Tropics

My eBook on expat life in Bali is now available for purchase. Please click on the link to learn more about this book that you'll want to read if you plan on moving to Bali. Here's what a reader has said about this book:

"Bruce Pohlman's e-book has already been a godsend to my wife Elsha and me. He writes in an inviting and colorful way. He covers the GENERAL: culture shock, the wonders and risks of  living overseas, to the SPECIFIC - costs of living, housing, medical issues, visas, employment. He even includes much PERSONAL info: what expats are like, why he left a job in San Francisco and ended up in Bali, personal and family relationships. And much more; anything you might want to know is in his e-book, with links to helpful websites throughout. We've used it to guide us countless times; it's like having a trusted uncle who's an expert. This book should become a classic about Bali."
